Abstract

The definitions of statistical probability offered by Boltzmann, Gibbs, Hilbert, and Enskog are criticized within the framework of classical statistics. A new definition, which avoids all the shortcomings of previous definitions and in the limit follows from the quantum-statistical definition, is proposed.
