Abstract
Summary Volvulus of the stomach may occur suddenly with complete obstruction of the cardia and pylorus or it may recur with vague symptoms over many years. Differences of anatomic configuration and the presence of other upper abdominal lesions both predispose to the development of volvulus of the stomach and account for the different types and varying severity of symptoms. A case is presented illustrating the futility of simple decompression without operative fixation of the stomach in this condition.
