Abstract

Purpose/Objective: T2MRI images provide superior detail of the prostate and rectum relative to CT, due to both clear prostate apex and base definition, and clear definition of the rectal wall. At the base and apex a clear separation of rectum and prostate is visible on MRI which could be exploited in high dose ultra-conformal treatment planning. This separation is less clearly defined on CT. In the post implant state swelling and seed artifact on CT obscure prostate and rectum boundaries, limiting the accuracy of CT based rectal dosimetry. In this study we compared the relationship of rectum to prostate as defined by MRI imaging vs CT imaging, in 10 external beam and 10 post-implant patients.
