Abstract
Using an equal-slope approximation of signal waveforms, a new method of coding complex signals with on–off pulses of varying width and repetition period has been developed. The distortion and channel-noise characteristics of the system are similar to those of an equivalent f.m. system. The noise threshold improves on using vestigial-sideband a.m. and p.m. techniques in r.f. channels.
