Abstract
AbstractIt is well known that ‘shamateurs’ – people who sell fish without holding an appropriate licence – have been profiteering from fisheries resources at the expense of both commercial and recreational fishers and to the detriment of the community in general. However, the impact of recreational fishing on fish stocks is not as well known but evidence is now emerging that it too can be a serious matter, at least in some cases, with a major impact on fishery resources. Recreational fishing has enormous potential for generating foreign exchange. Discussions of this matter have been published in recent issues of Australian Fisheries on which the following account is largely based.
