Abstract
The author presents over 60 years of his professional experience on the Inst ituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical, since the beginning of his career at 16 years of age, as laboratory technician in Angola, in the Missao de Prospeccao de Endemias, to his research work on Medical Parasitology, with part icular emphasis on Medical Entomology and specially on mosquitoes (Diptera, Culicidae), after the independence of other Portuguese speaking count ries, namely Cape Vert , S. Tome and Principe Islands. Also focused are relevant published papers, authored or co-authored, regarding mosquitoes and phlebotomine sand flies (Diptera, Psychodidae), as well as the epidemiology of diseases whose pathogens are t ransmit ted by these vectors. The author ment ion some of his scient ific act ivities over these 60 years of work with several Teachers, Researchers, Technicians and Collaborators, and the hardships and joys that he shared during his life as a cit izen and scient ist .
