Abstract

A station for research into the relation between lightning discharges and whistlers was operated near Uppsala and preliminary results obtained were published in this Journal. Further analysis of data obtained has been carried out. It has been possible by harmonic analysis to show that lightning discharges producing whistlers have a pronounced energy peak around 5 kc/s. From a comparison of time intervals of multiple lightning discharges recorded by a cathode-ray oscillograph and from corresponding records of multiple whistlers on sonagrams full agreement in time variation between the two phenomena was demonstrated.
