Abstract

With the rapid development of modern industry, noise pollution has become one of the serious environmental problems in human life. The application of porous sound absorption materials to dissipate noise is an important way to mitigate the hazards of noise pollution. Organic aerogel is a porous material with great potential for application in sound absorption, because it combines the characteristics of aerogel and organic material, such as low density, high porosity, controllable molecular structure and excellent mechanical properties. This review mainly focuses on the latest studies on the sound absorption properties of organic aerogels and also summarizes the preparation methods. Moreover, the sound absorption principles and predictive modeling of organic aerogels are illustrated systematically. Finally, the current challenges of organic aerogels and its research directions are reviewed. This review work aims to deliver an insight towards further directions and developments of organic aerogels for extended applications in sound absorption application.
