Abstract

This paper describes recent progress in ultra-high-speed optical soliton communication using erbium-doped fiber amplifiers such as 80-Gbit/s 500-km and 160-Gbit/s 200-km transmission and related technologies. New technologies for soliton transmission control in the time and frequency domains and dispersion-allocated soliton transmission are also described along with experimental results on high-speed and long-distance transmission. In addition, the generation and detection of a pseudorandom dark soliton train and its application to 10-Gbit/s 1200-km dark soliton communication are described.
