Abstract

An overview of recent developments in gaseous tracking detectors is given focusing on the application of micro pattern devices. For trigger purposes in LHC-B a triple-GEM detector has been optimized for good time performance through a detailed investigation of the role played by electric fields and gas mixture. The design studies for a time-projection chamber at the detector of a e + e − linear collider advise the usage of micro pattern devices. Ongoing R&D work for the construction of a TPC using either GEM foils or Micromegas is presented
