Abstract
Papua New Guinea is a developing country which gives a high priority to education. The Papua New Guinea University of Technology has recently conducted a degree course in cartography aimed at meeting the demands of a rapidly changing profession. The basic philosophy of cartographic training in Papua New Guinea is outlined and related to the changes now occurring in the country's mapping industry.
