Abstract

The significant advances made in nanotechnology have attracted the interest of a wide range of industries in recent years. Energy recovery from oil and gas is a unique application in the petroleum industry that will continue to expand in the future, particularly in the sector of enhanced oil recovery (EOR). By changing wettability and lowering interfacial tension, nanoparticles have the potential to increase oil recovery. However, further study is needed to maximize this potential use. This study analyses the latest developments in the usage of silica-based nanofluid for enhanced oil recovery. Researchers are interested in silica-based nanofluid because of the potential economic benefits it might provide as well as its compatibility with reservoir rock. Various variables, such as nanoparticle size, salt content, pH, and temperature, all have a role in the stability of the nanofluid, which is investigated in this study for future direction in order to improve oil recovery and recover more crude oil.
