Abstract

Multicomponent reaction (MCR) is a synthetic method in which three or more reactants react in a single reaction vessel to make a novel product. The typical feature of MCRs is that the resultant products include approximately all parts of substrates, creating virtually no side-products. One-pot MCRs have appeared as an effective method for benign synthesis because of their efficiency, simple performance, and construction of very varied and complex products from simply accessible starting materials in a single operation. Heterocyclic compounds are present in various drugs as well as biologically active compounds. In this chapter, we try to highlight recent advances in the synthesis of five-membered heterocycles via multicomponent reactions and domino reaction for the period 2017–22.
