Abstract

It is the aim of the present review to highlight some of the experimental and theoretical achievements made within the last decade in the field of ion transfer at liquid|liquid interfaces. Because of the vast number of papers that have been published it has been impossible to adequately discuss all of them. Therefore a choice has been made of those papers in which new concepts are described, which may have important implications for further developments. One of the new concepts in ion transfer studies at liquid|liquid interfaces is the recently proposed use of three-phase electrodes. Because of its novelty and because of the experience that the author has with these systems, this concept receives special attention in this review.
