Abstract
The synthesis of new compounds with novel biological properties and functionalities to fight emerging diseases has the significant role in pharmaceutical science. Schiff bases are the versatile pharmacophores due to azomethine moiety and they form metal complexes easily by chelation with various transition metals. During the last few decades, Schiff base metal complexes have played a unique role in coordination chemistry due to broad range of potential bio-application such as antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, analgesic, antitumor and drug discovery. In this review, we highlighted the recent advance synthesis of heterocyclic Schiff base transition metal complexes and their antimicrobial activities especially antibacterial and antifungal with various strains from the last five years (2018–2022) and compared the result with the standard drugs and most of the activities results are summarised in tabular form.
