Abstract

Abstract According to a recent survey, over 90% of all the scientists in recorded history are alive today. The abundance of scientific publications now available clearly indicates not only that these scientists are alive, but that they are publishing at an astronomical rate. Emission spectroscopists are no exception in this trend. Because of the magnitude of this scientific information, keeping abreast with the latest developments in the field of emission spectrometry becomes very time consuming. The aim of this review is to assist the reader with this task. Although the primary emphasis is upon applications of the latest techniques, pertinent fundamental developments are also included.
