Abstract

There are many kinds of surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). With the development of new methods and technologies, various surgical procedures have been developed for BPH. Such as transurethral laser prostatectomy (TULP) and bipolar plasma kinetic vaporization of prostate (BPKVP). However, all of the surgical procedures at present are by removing of hyperplastic glandular tissue. There are still no effective surgical treatment for patients who want to preserve the prostate organ or those who have poor tolerance to conventional surgery and anesthesia. Transurethral columnar balloon dilation of the prostate (TUCBDP)is a new technology for the treatment of BPH in recent years. This article reviews the research progress and clinical application of TUCBDP.

Highlights

  • benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common benign disease in aging men, which has a significant impact on their urination

  • The incidence of this condition is increasing with aging and the classic clinical presentation of it is the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which has a serious impact on the quality of life of elderly men with the progression of BPH [1]

  • There are no effective means for those patients who want to keep the prostate organ or those who have poor tolerance to conventional surgery and anesthesia
