Abstract

PNG has high infant, child, and maternal mortality rates that are amenable to early interventions at individual, dyadic, family, community, and health facility level. The National Department of Health has strategies to address these health priorities through the national health plan key result areas. Fathers are not specifically included in the plan to improve Maternal Child Health (MCH), although a Men’s Health Policy is planned. Fathers are an under utilised resource in addressing the challenges to improve MCH indicators and and the broader goals of population level sexual and reproductive health.
