Abstract

A realization of a control unit for (special purpose) radio systems in the Windows NT environment is described. A Windows NT workstation is a general-purpose operating system that has the capability of providing a fast response, but the time is not as determined as required by hard real time systems. Apart from the fact that Win NT is not a hard real time operating system, it enables radio system control in real time within this system. Special purpose radio systems require an application that controls and monitors several radio devices and also processes the obtained radio signals. The radio system possesses five different operating modes; each operating mode in the radio system has its own class, and each radio-system mode has a separate thread and there is also a separate user interface thread.
