Abstract
The concept of mental health primary care integration has existed for over 30 years is gradually becoming a standard of care. Many factors have contributed to the need for collaboration including calls to improve the nation's health and the overall quality of healthcare, a need to decrease healthcare costs, and a desire to reduce stigma associated with mental health treatment thereby improving access to care. The integration of mental health and primary care is by its very nature biopsychosocial, allowing providers to move away from the outdated biomedical model of health.
