Abstract

Innate immune cells engulf and degrade pathogens inside phagosomes through a complex sequence of reactions including acidification and proteolytic activity. Many studies characterized individual reactions in phagosome “maturation” process in the past, however, the temporal correlation between phagosomal acidification and proteolytic activity is still barely unveiled. This is because methods for simultaneous measurement of more than one reaction inside single phagosomes is essential to investigate the correlation between multiple events.
