Abstract

This work is dedicated towards the design, configuration and ratings of various structural components of DC microgrid. Optimal voltage levels for DC distribution systems are also discussed based on efficiency studies of various converters. Real time energy management system (RTEMS) and controlling schemes are investigated for a grid tied DC microgrid comprising of various configuration blocks. The presented work deals with the dynamic controlling of intermittent power sources such as photovoltaic unit which increases the complexity of the integrated control algorithm. The proposed microgrid configuration and RTEMS is successfully implemented in RSCAD software. System dynamics originating due to variation in loading conditions, temperature and solar insolation are also observed and detailed in this work. Implementation of RTEMS ensures stable DC node voltages under such heavy transients. The power equilibrium is discussed for various system conditions.
