Abstract

This chapter discusses real space renormalization and Julia sets in statistical mechanics. The Potts model is a generalization of the Ising model. By changing the rule of construction, several hierarchical lattices can be constructed. The advantage of these hierarchical lattices is that all kinds of models of statistical mechanics can be easily solved. The critical temperature is the temperature where the free energy is singular. Exact renormalization transformations can be written on hierarchical lattices. The chapter describes zeros of the partition function—Julia set.
