Abstract

Starting from Martin Puchner’s classification, developed in the book O mundo da escrita, published in Brazil in 2019, which distinguishes between fundamental texts and sacred texts, this article reopens the old discussion about the criteria that govern these classifications and reaches the Bible, a text traditionally placed on the shelf of sacred texts. Thus, after presenting and analyzing new editions of biblical texts (editions that we characterize as secular) we ask if such editorial initiatives would not represent a process of desacralization of the Bible, giving it a new label that opens its covers to readers not linked to traditional religions, but who are interested in the classics of world literature.
