Abstract
Abstract The reactions of aluminium(III) iodide with a number of common potentially chelating ethers and esters have been studied in diethylether or carbon disulphide solutions. Cleavage of the O-C bond occurred under very mild conditions. Differences in reactivity of aluminium iodide towards some closely related compounds suggest chelation is important in the mechanism of cleavage.
