Abstract

Treatment of RImH 3+ (R=(NH 3 ) 5 Co, ImH=imidazole) with aqueous Br 2 in acetate (or phosphate) buffer at pH 4-6 results in R(parabanate) 2+ as the only product (parabanic acid=imidazolidine-2,4,5-trione). A crystal structure of [R(parabanate)]Cl 2 •3H 2 O (orthohombic, P2 1 2 1 2 1 ; a=6.936 (1), b=11.032 (3), c=19.652 (3) A; Z=4; R=0.0491, 1301 reflections) is reported
