Abstract

Edited version of a paper originally presented at the Pre-Congress Seminar of the Education and Training Committee of the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID/ET), held in Graz, Austria, from 20– 21 October 1996. Describes the distance learning programmes in library and information science offered by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in India. Outlines the content of the multimedia teaching methods used, and provides a profile of students on the Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree courses in Library and Information Science at the university.
