Abstract

With the commitment to sustainable energy for the future, renewable energy application is expanding rapidly. Wind energy is currently the fastest growing form of electricity generation in Europe with a 40% increase in installed capacity over 1999/2000. Another fastgrowing renewable energy technology is photovoltaics with considerable recent commercial investment in manufacturing capability, particularly in the United States and Japan. Other renewable sources such as biomass, and technologies such as large-scale solar thermal, are expected to develop significantly over the next decade.
