Abstract

The re-entrant spin glass (RSG) transition observed in the randomly mixed planar magnet with competing exchange interactions, Rb 2Mn 1- x Cr x Cl 4, is explained qualitatively by the Villain model. The temperature dependence of the anisotropy field which confines the spins in the c-plane plays an important role in the RSG transition.
