Abstract

Perovskite-type rare-earth rhodium borides of the chemical formula RRh3B (R=La, Gd, Lu and Sc) have been studied from the viewpoint of microhardness. Polycrystals of RRh3B are synthesized by the arc melting method. RRh3B compounds have a perovskite-type cubic structure (space group: Pm3m). The microhardness become larger with the contraction of the volume of the Rh6B octahedron in the perovskite-type structure. As a result, microhardness increases with decreasing atomic size of R in RRh3B.
