Abstract

The intensity pattern vs range for a CW point source in a model of the deep ocean has been computed using an IBM 650 digital computer. The model chosen assumed a flat bottom over a liquid stratum and a range independent linearly segmented velocity profile. The intensity pattern was obtained by coherent addition of the various multipath arrivals including phase shifts due to Rayleigh reflection. It is indicated that these methods can be used routinely on a digital computer even for the case of irregular boundaries. (This work was supported by the Office of Naval Research.)
