Abstract
The complex interplay between lipid phase structure of the host cells and nanoscale dynamics at the viral lipid envelope is considered critical for the pathogen’s ability to interact and fuse with the host-cell membrane. Despite decades of research, details about the exact role played by viral lipids in regulating its’ infectivity remain unknown. In particular, a clear mechanistic picture of viral lipid phase structure, and its impact on viral fusion is still lacking. This is partially owing to a dearth of techniques that reveal viral lipid organization in a holistic fashion.
