Abstract
The reaction of O- and N-atoms produces NO( C 2 Π) molecules by inverse predissociation. At low total pressure NO( A 2 Σ +) molecules are exclusively formed from NO( C 2 Π) by NO(C 2Π) → NO(A 2Σ +)+hv (4) The population of NO( A 2 Σ +) is determined by the radiative steady-state. By measuring the intensities of the NO( C 2 Π → X 2 Π)− δ−bands and the NO( A 2 Σ + → X 2 Π)- γ−bands the oscillator strengths for the NO( C 2 Π → A 2 Σ +) transition is derived. The result is f = 0.61.
