Abstract

The article deals with the development and decline of the public sector in the US economy in the 19th - 20th centuries. The object of the article is the US public enterprise sector; the subject is the establishment, development and decline of the public sector of the United States. The chronological framework of the study covers the period from the implementation of the “Louisiana Purchase” to the end of the Cold War. The authors consider the role of state institutions and enterprises in the banking sector, large infrastructure sector, postal service, as well as forms of entrepreneurship that were established to serve the needs of the state in the management of vast lands and abundant water resources owned by the state.
