Abstract
This paper discusses infinite tepered slider bearing performance in the rarefied gas region. The linearized Boltzmann equation was solved by the numerical method of iteration and a pressure equation was obtained, coupled with the continuous equation. The pressure distribution was determined using the finite difference method. Calculation results were compared with two-moment approximation. It was found that two-moment approximations had more than 10% error in the region of inverse Knudsen number a<1.6. The pressure distribution and velocity profiles showed rarefied gas characteristics more obviously than the flying height, because a small reduction in the flying height produces a rather high pressure increase. So, the flying height difference between the present solution and the two-moment approximation is at most 30%, even in a very small flying height region.
