Abstract

This paper presents a rapid prototyping system (RAPROS) for hardware/software solutions on PC-compatible platforms. The system contains a number of reconfigurable field-programmable devices, memory chips and pre-wired interconnect structures, that can be custom-configured by downloading a design which is in the form of a configuration file. It offers a very flexible interface to the designer in the prototyping phase, but it also offers flexible run-time support for integration of the target system into an application that is implemented partly in software and partly in hardware on a PC platform. Benefits to prototyping processes using the RAPROS system and an application are illustrated in an example of image enhancement using a high-boost image filter example.
