Abstract
To realize the non-destructive automatic measurement of pavement texture and determine a suitable mean texture depth (MTD) calculation method, a 3D scan method was used to scan the depth information of the pavement surface. The effect of pavement wheel track deformation on 3D pavement texture was considered, and different data calibration methods and reference plane definitions on MTD calculations were compared. Simulating samples with varying abrasion levels for fine-grained and slightly textured pavements through accelerated wear experiments were formed and scanned. This method can measure fine-grade or highly abrasive pavements that cannot be measured using the mean profile depth (MPD) method. Experiments show that the calculation based on the deformation calibration is more conservative. The superiority of the deformation hypothesis and the feasibility of deformation separation were further analyzed and verified on the measured field pavement. The deformation calibration makes the calculated MTDs less volatile.
