Abstract

From previous magnetization measurements the assumed paramagnetic to ferrimagnetic transition temperature of Co2TiO4 is 55 K while the specific heat shows an anomaly at 49 K. New magnetization measurements show a magnetic transition of the random anisotropy kind at 48 K. The random anisotropy is assumed to arise from random lattice distortions screening large electric charge fluctuations due to the large charge difference between Co2+ and Ti4+.
