Abstract

In the modern era, the challenges faced by children are enormous. However, at Kemayoran – Jakarta area there is a small gamelan community who learns about traditional music culture; Javanese Gamelan. These children can provide positive inspiration to introduce traditional music culture through picture books. The formulation of the problem is the grouping of traditional gamelan music, including: Javanese, Sundanese, Balinese and Banjar, with the main cultivation on Javanese Gamelan. The purpose of this picture book is to add insight for children. Data collection using qualitative and quantitative methods, helps researchers get accurate results for the continuation of the work on this picture book. The initial idea for developing this storybook was to introduce traditional Javanese gamelan music to children aged 7-10 years with an almost complex psychological character. The illustrations on each page use a semi-realistic style so that the information conveyed can be captured properly and manual techniques, mix of watercolor and colored pencils to give a simple impression. Meanwhile, each page is given an infographic with a brief explanation of musical instruments. Supporting media for the promotion of this book include posters, banners, cloth bags, mugs, and VCDs that are memorable and functional for children. The conclusion of this study requires a lot of data, and the work of the illustrations requires its own style so that the information conveyed is easily absorbed and clear.
