Abstract
The separation Δν = νaniso - νiso between the isotropic and anisotropic components of the CO stretching vibration of Raman bands in the spectra of isotopic mixtures of methyl acetate and of acetone was measured. In a mixture of acetone and its deuterated analogue Δν is smaller than in the neat individual compounds, whereas in the isotopic mixtures of methyl acetate Δν is independent of the composition of the mixture. The mixing of isotopic molecules of both compounds also affects in a different way the shape of carbonyl bands in the isotropic component of Raman scattering, and these differences are discussed from the point of view of distinct vibrational correlations.
