Abstract
Hexamethylenetetratellurafulvalene (HMTTeF) has been found to show large frequency shifts of the CC stretching vibrational Raman bands on ionization. Magnitudes of the shifts are comparable to those for TTF, HMTTF and HMTSF. Such large shifts indicate that an electron is removed from a τ-bonding orbital of HMTTeF on ionization but not from the lone pairs of tellurium. Degrees of charge transfer in HMTTF- and HMTSF-TCNQ have been estimated by use of the large frequency shifts and compared with those estimated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy.
