The last thirty-seven of those years were spent covering Latin America and the Caribbean. He has won numerous journalism and professional awards, among them the Overseas Press Club's 1983 Hal Boyle Award for the Best Daily Newspaper or Wire Service Reporting from Abroad; the Maria Moors Cabot Award from Columbia University in 1974; and the Knight-Ridder Newspapers Newspaper News/Editorial Excellence Award in 1987. Mr. Bohning is the author of The Castro Obsession: U.S. Covert Activities Against Cuba 1959–1965 (Dulles, VA: Potomac Books, 2005).
