Abstract

In a previous communication [l] results obtained from a radiotracer study of the adsorption behaviour of a r4C-labelled tetrapeptide (Arg*-Lys-Asp-Val) at smooth gold and platinized electrodes were reported and discussed. Strong chemisorption was found at platinized electrodes in both acid and alkaline media, attesting to the strong interaction occurring between the peptide molecule and the platinum surface. These observations were in agreement with the expectations based on previous studies with amino acids [2]. The behaviour observed in the case of smooth gold electrodes differs in many respects from that discussed above. For instance, a reversible adsorption was found in acid medium. As a continuation of this work the study of the adsorption behaviour of the corresponding tripeptide (Arg*-Lys-Asp) at a smooth gold electrode was considered as a necessary next step. A gold electrode was used for these studies with the aim of obtaining some additional information about the role of the valine molecule in the adsorption behaviour of the tetrapeptide.
