Abstract

ABSTRACTAqueous extracts of Centella asiatica and Withania somnifera were evaluated for their radiomodifying effects in normal Chinese hamster lung fibroblasts (V79) and human breast epithelial cells (MCF-12A), using the colony-forming assay. The results showed that aqueous extracts of C. asiatica and W. somnifera may either sensitize or protect normal cells from the cytotoxic effects of ionizing radiation. The combined use of these extracts with radiotherapy may prove beneficial in treatment of cancer.
