Abstract
Thermal ablation of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has become increasingly popular and provides many advantages over surgical resection, particularly in patients with poor renal function and in those with multiple comorbidities. Extensive experience supports the use of image-guided radiofrequency ablation (RFA) in treatment of primary RCC with a high cure rate and a low rate of complications. This article reviews the indications for thermal ablation and the risks, benefits, and complications of the procedure. Furthermore, the article describes in detail the essential steps for performing renal RFA and reviews follow-up imaging timing and interpretation.
