Abstract Galactic H ii regions and supernova remnants were observed in the 257a and 323 recombination lines near 386 MHz (A 78 cm) with the NRAO 300-foot (91-m) telescope. The H257a line was found in M17, W43 (both +45 and +98 km 1 features), W51 (G49.0 -0.2), and the North America and Rosette nebulae. In addition, W51 displays C 257a. The p transition was not detected in any source. Line emission from the diffuse interstellar medium may be important at this frequency, apparently contributing to the H 257a profile toward M17, and possibly, toward W43 and W51. Except for M17, the line widths and velocities calculated from our data are consistent with measurements taken at higher frequencies.
