Abstract
We give analytical formulas for the cross section and rate coefficient for radiative recombination between bare ions and free electrons into a fixed n state. Those were derived in the low-energy regime within the nonrelativistic dipole approximation by using the sum rule given by Burgess. An analytical expression for the low-energy Gaunt factor is also derived. The results are briefly discussed in the context of current atomic physics experiments using the electron cooler in heavy ion storage rings.
