Abstract

A general expression for the pathlength derivative of radiation intensity is given in spatial directional orthogonal curvilinear coordinates system. Former results in the most commonly used coordinates systems are retrieved. The Discrete Ordinates general formulation is also given. The numerical methodology for solving the Radiative Transfer Equation in a participating medium described in curvilinear coordinates (infinite cylinder based on a convex curve) is detailed. The method is tested in the case of the radiative equilibrium of a gray medium confined between infinite black concentric cylinders based: (a) on circles for which some previous results are available, (b) on ellipses.
