Abstract

ESR and DSC have been used to investigate the process of radiation postpolymerization of methacrylic derivatives of oxypropylated laevoglucosan of different M γ-irradiated at 77K. The monoamer radicals formed on attachment of H to the most hydrated atom of the −C=C− bond have been identified. It is noted that the polymer chain is generated at temperatures 100–130°C lower than T g of the oligomers. However, diffusion hindrances sharply inhibit further growth of the chain and the intense heat release associated with the effective post-polymerization of the oligomers is observed only after devitrification of the oligomers. It has also been found that lengthening of the oxypropylated oligomer chain considerably influences the course of the process of post-radiation polymerization.
