Abstract

A proposal is made for the radial dependence of the s and d bosons in the interacting boson model. Since these operators describe in lowest order the λ = 0 and λ = 2 two-particle transfer operators it is possible to identify in the case of deformed nuclei the boson two-particle transition density with the corresponding quantity obtained in the macroscopic approach. This leads to radial functions for the s and d bosons which are respectively proportional to the first and second derivatives of the nuclear density. The consequences of this identification for the predicted pair-transition densities to the β-band are also discussed.
